About Long Lines

Long Lines is a puzzle game that borrows the shape of classic snake and rebuilds it as a series of self-contained levels. Each stage lays out a field of dots and gives you one snake to steer, and the level is done when every dot has been collected. Because the tail follows the head, the free space you have to work with keeps shrinking as you pick things up, so the order in which you visit the dots matters far more than how fast you move. It sits closer to route planning than reflex play: the real task is drawing one continuous line that reaches everything without running into itself. Sessions are short, since a layout either resolves or closes in on you and you start again with a better idea of the path. The satisfaction comes from spotting the route that fits.

How to Play Long Lines

Steer with the arrow keys or WASD, changing direction to guide the head over each dot. On a phone or tablet, swipe in the direction you want to turn or tap the side of the screen you are heading towards. Collect every dot on the level while avoiding your own trailing body and the walls. If a route closes off, restart the level and try a different order.

Tips and Tricks

Look at the whole layout before you start moving and decide roughly which dots you will take first, second and last, rather than grabbing whichever one is nearest.
Clear dots along the outside edges early. Leaving them for later usually means squeezing between your own tail and a wall, which is where most attempts fail.
Turn early rather than late. Hugging a wall or your own body leaves narrow one-square gaps that you cannot get back into once the tail is longer.
If you can see the path is already blocked, restart straight away instead of playing on. A fresh attempt with a better order costs less time than trying to salvage a bad one.
