About Shadow Heroes

Shadow Heroes is a side-scrolling adventure platformer starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the pizza-loving team who spend their nights fighting crime. The story sends them into the Metropolitan Rail System, where April O'Neil, their first human ally, has been taken and needs bringing home. Progress depends on the turtles' ninjutsu training: you move along platforms, climb, time your jumps around moving hazards and deal with anyone blocking the route through tunnels and station halls. What separates it from most platform games is the reliance on the group rather than a single hero. Each turtle brings a different ability, and getting past an obstacle usually means picking the right one for the job, then swapping again as the layout changes. Sessions are short and stage-based, so you can play a couple of screens or keep going for a longer run.

How to Play Shadow Heroes

Use the arrow keys or WASD to run and climb, and the spacebar to jump. An attack key or a mouse click handles the fighting, and there is a control for switching to another turtle when you need a different ability. On a phone or tablet the same actions are handled with on-screen buttons: tap to jump and drag or tap to move.

Tips and Tricks

  • Before forcing a jump or a fight, check which turtle you are controlling. Most blocked routes in Shadow Heroes are asking for a particular ability rather than better timing.
  • Learn the rhythm of moving hazards on the rails and platforms by watching one full cycle from a safe ledge, then move on the gap rather than guessing.
  • Deal with enemies from a raised platform or as they turn away, since being cornered on flat ground between two of them is where most attempts end.
  • Keep the whole group healthy rather than pushing one turtle to the front. If a character you rely on for a specific obstacle is worn down, you lose the route that needs them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I control all four turtles or just one at a time?

You control one turtle at a time and switch between them as needed, which is why combining their separate abilities is the core of the game.

Where does the game take place?

The stages are set in the Metropolitan Rail System, so you spend the game moving through tunnels, platforms and station areas.

Do I need to install anything to play?

No. Shadow Heroes runs in the browser on Dubdoo, so it starts straight away with no download, install or account.

Is it playable on a phone?

Yes, on touch devices the movement, jumping and attacking are mapped to on-screen buttons, though a keyboard gives you finer control over jumps.

Who am I trying to rescue?

April O'Neil, the turtles' first human ally, has been kidnapped, and reaching her is the goal that drives the stages forward.

Is there much fighting or is it mostly platforming?

It is a mix: you spend most of your time jumping and climbing, with enemy encounters along the way that are handled using the turtles' ninjutsu.
